Quick and Easy Meal in a Jar; Chili

Anyone love to camp, but not sit in the kitchen all day cooking? Or how about those busy moms, that have been working, or running from one appointment to another? These meals in a jar are perfect for you!! Also, we live in the South and it is hurricane season, this is a great way to get prepared. These are good long term staples for any emergency.

Just remember you can change it up to suit your family. Do you like it spicy? Just add more seasonings. Don’t like corn, keep it out. Use the recipe as it is, or as a base. Just have fun!!

My husband travels at times, and so these are really great for him to toss in the slow cooker, and have a nice warm dinner. I purchased this crock pot, that is perfect for these quart meals. I also make these in half gallon jars for our family, and use this crock pot.

This recipe is for a quart. Feel free to double, or triple it if needed. I can ground beef, and I dehydrate ground beef. If you don’t have either, just omit it or cook it up before hand.

All you do it layer each ingredient into a quart jar.

Ingredients

  • 1 C kidney beans
  • 1 C pinto beans
  • 1/2 C dehydrated corn
  • 1/2 C tomato powder
  • 1/3 C dehydrated chopped tomatoes (you can add more)
  • 1/4 C dehydrated onions
  • 1/4 C dehydrated chopped celery
  • 1 TBSP beef bouillon
  • 2 TBSP chili seasoning mix
  • 1 pint of ground beef (I used dehydrated ground beef)
  • 1/2 C pasta (optional)

Directions

Empty your jar into your crockpot, add 2 quarts of water and cook until it’s done. I start it in the morning on low, and it is ready in time for dinner.

Tip

If you don’t have dehydrated beans, you can just use some canned beans. Use what you have on hand. That is always my moto!

If you ever have beans leftover, don’t toss them. Put them in your dehydrator, for meals like this!!
