Dehydrating Onions for Onion Powder

Dehydrated onions are most definitely my number one pantry staple. I use dehydrated onions and onion powder in almost everything I cook. In the South, we tend to cook with a lot of spices, so I try to make what I can.

In the above video, I show you how to dehydrate onions. Once your onions are completely dry, place them in a grinder, blender, or food processor. If you use a Vitamix, make sure to use your dry container.

Once you get the onions all ground up, you may see some clumping happening. I like to take the powder, place it in a coffee filter, and put it back in the dehydrator. I put the temperature on 110 degrees and let the powder dry a bit more.

If you don’t have any clumps, place the powder into an airtight container. I like to add an oxygen absorber to all my spices because I am always opening the jars up.
